Origins and Ownership

Initially, Turkish airlines was founded on May 23th, 1933 as “State Airlines Administration” to serve as a department for the Ministry of National Defence in Turkey. On May 21st, 1955, the name was changed to Turkish airlines as accordance to Law number 6623.

In April, 2005, Temel Kotil, 55 years of age was appointed as the General Manager, he is also the Vice Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee up to this day. Kotil was born on December 3, 1959, in Rize, Turkey.

Turkish Airlines managed to gain mixture of loyal and disappointed customers. According to satisfied customers, the in flight service was perfect, extra legroom, flight attendants were attentive and the flight itself was fun.

Main complaints are directed to their food and beverage distribution. One couple was disappointed because their children were not given food at all during their flight, is this true or the customer is just going out of their way to tarnish the airline’s reputation?

One patron said that he will never fly with Turkish Airlines again. However, the in flight entertainment was complemented by reviews, saying that the choices for viewing and listening is very wide.

The website has it’s own FAQ page for general questions with information. Customers can also direct their enquiries to the website using the online feedback form.

Business Class

Passengers can rest in an ottoman that can be converted to a 75 inch sleeping space. Each seat has a light for reading and can be dimmed or brightened to the ambiance you like. A massage and position selection button can be accessed beneath the armrest. The armrest that can serve as a privacy screen is controlled by a touch button.

Comfort Class

In this class, the seat pitch is 46 inches and the width is 19.5 inches, the seat configuration is 2-3-2. The seats can be reclined 8.8 inches for a comfortable sleep. Each seat has an individual reading light.

Economy Class

The seat pitch for economy is 31-32 inch. The maximum recline of each seat is 6 inches, the seat pan adds an additional 1.5 inches with a total recline of 7.5 inches.

Food and Beverage

Servings are perfectly prepared by the “Flying Chefs” onboard for the satisfaction and delight of each customer for the business class. Passengers are surely to experience the “Turkish Hospitality” with a varieties of food, snacks and beverages.

Passengers are greeted with welcome drinks. Passengers can indulge themselves to fresh salads and vegetables with a choice of hot meals. Their in flight food service includes desserts, fruits and cheese selections. Alcoholic drinks are also available, but make sure to monitor your alcohol intake.

Economy class passengers’ are prepared with fresh ingredients, the menu offers the best of Turkish and other countries worldwide.

In Flight Entertainment

Entertainment is provided by Planet Digital system with movies, tv programs, music, cd albums and games. Only selected aircrafts have this inflight entertainment including B777, A340, A330 and B737-800.


Passengers on International flights are given a baggage allowance according to class. Business class passengers have 30kg, comfort and economy passengers have 20kg. Infants (0-2 years old) have an allowance of 10kg.


Turkish Airlines have 3 main hubs, Istanbul Atatürk Airport, Esenboğa International Airport and Sabiha Gökçen International Airport. Turkish Airlines is the fourth best airline in the world according to SkyTrax. There’s no doubt that their service is great but there are certain gaps needed to be fixed because several customers are starting to lose their cool when dealing with Turkish Airlines. Time to get those customers back.
