London Stansted Airport Reviews

London Stansted Airport traces its roots back to 1943 and was used during World War II by the Royal Air Force and the United States Army Air Forces as a bomber airfield and as a major maintenance depot. After the war, it was taken over by the Air Ministry and was used for housing German prisoners of war. It was in 1946 when this establishment was finally used to provide air carrier services. In this review we’ll be looking at London Stansted Airport (STN)

London Stansted Airport’s Facilities

We had noticed the gradual ranking down of London Stansted Airport. On a positive note, let us share the different airport facilities at STN.

Voyager EntertainmentThere is an information desk located in the international arrivals area and it’s open for 24 hours. London Stansted Airport used to have shower rooms at each arrival area but we’re not quite sure now after renovations. Medical attention such as pharmacies are located at the security area. For gaming entertainment (big kids), Voyager Entertainment offers video games located at the land side and airside of the airport.

There are various restaurants, cafés and bars before and after security at London Stansted Airport. These include Italian restaurants, a sushi bar, fast-food outlets and a British-style pub.

There are numerous shops throughout the terminal, which range from duty-free outlets (for passengers leaving the EU) and designer shops to newsagents. A free shopping collection service is available for passengers travelling within the EU.

WiFi (free for up to 60 minutes) is available, just connect to the ” _stanstedairport” network. Exceeding usage can be purchased and rates starts at £3 for 1 hour, £5 for 3 hours and £9 for 24 hours.

London Stansted Airport is situated next to junction 8a of the M11 motorway (which connects southwards to London) and is less than 20 minutes away from junction 27 of the M25 motorway (which circles the city).Driving

Location – Traffic – Service

The airport, owned by Manchester Airports Group, is situated 48km (30 miles) northeast of central London, in Essex.  STN is a base for a number of major European low-cost carriers, being the largest base for low-cost airline Ryanair with over 100 destinations served by the airline. It is the fourth busiest airport in the United Kingdom after Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester. The international airport had accommodated a total of 22,519,178 passengers in 2015.

Unfortunately, the one-terminal international airport had garnered an overall score of 2/10 rating on Skytrax. The main problem of the airport is delayed flights due to late and early gate opening and closing. Some passengers had even stated that STN is an airport to avoid due to its very slow service and unorganized lanes. It is quite noticeable that the most recent feedback are actually negative.

Development Plan

London Stansted Airport is planning on developments to make a possibility of accommodating 40-45 million passengers on their single runway. Their targets include maximising the usage of their land area. This plan aims to maintain their number one position for public transport, unlock economic growth and create more jobs in their region. We once wrote about London Heathrow Airport and who had thought that Heathrow remains on the 8th spot in the World’s Top 100 Airports in 2016, while Stansted went down to 95th from 73rd spot last year. Maybe STN should try to add a terminal to organize their flights and passenger traffic since customer concerns are more generalized to airports incapable of accommodating a lot of travellers.
