One of the best low-cost airlines nowadays is IndiGo. The Indian-based budget domestic airline traces its roots back to 2006 with Rahul Bhatia and Rakesh Gangwal. Prior to that, in 2005 IndiGo had made a firm order of 100 Airbus A320-200 in plan of commencing operations by 2006. However, they received their first aircraft by August 2006 and by the end of this year, they will already have 6 aircraft by then.

Now, IndiGo has a fleet size of 107 aircraft catering to 40 destinations: (35) domestic and (5) international. The Indian low-cost airline operates at Indira Gandhi International Airport and is still being managed by their founders Rahul Bhatia and Rakesh Gangwal. IndiGo airlines is one of the few air carriers that just recently started and had ranked up to be part of the world’s top 100 airlines.

I personally love the overall layout of their official website, it actually looks like a Windows-themed page that provides airline services. The first time we looked at the site, we weren’t even confused since the website is user friendly and very easy to navigate. Tech savvy persons won’t find any problems using the IndiGo’s page at all. Appearance matters, IndiGo made sure it’s not just about good looks. Because, the site’s functionality includes the typical booking, managing and check-in online.

IndiGo Reviews-mobile appIndiGo also promotes destinations on their page and provides travel insurance, airline policies, services and information. Hotel reservation booking and car rental services are also available. Of course, as being part of the top airlines, IndiGo has a mobile version of all these services and the app is available in the App Store, Google Play Store and Windows Store.

Even the own page of UsingMiles doesn’t provide any brief history of their company nor Wikipedia information showing to how or when UsingMiles started. But on Crunchbase, it is said that UsingMiles was founded in 2010 by a Krista Paul in Denver, Colorado (which pretty much links to the given head office address and contact email below). The story goes like, she started the company out of frustration of losing over 26,000 miles from an unnamed mileage program of an airline.

Join me as we discover this new managing mileage site and travel company called “UsingMiles”.

What is UsingMiles?
From the name of the company, the travel company was established to help frequent flyers to manage their loyalty program awards, points and miles. They had been the first and only award-travel site that provides this kind of service. However, they also have the option to search and book flights and hotel reservations. To be honest, I just stumbled on this site and it piqued my curiosity to how it actually works. But I got so pissed with their travel service of searching flights. I tried using their tool and it took forever loading. Like, seriously it was loading for half an hour and nothing happens.
Initially it will ask customers to sign up for their membership for FREE or Premier membership for $29.99/yr. I guess that’s too much money, even it’s just annually. Well, in exchange of that travellers will be able to manage and stay track with their miles, points and awards. But really, it doesn’t sound helpful at all. I remember customers of Amazon complaining about a 9.99 annual payment for Prime membership, I wonder what consumers of UsingMiles have to say?


UsingMiles Reviews of Consumers?
UsingMiles has several reviews shown on their front page which are not actually found online. If I were to be asked, who verified that these UsingMiles reviews are legit and not just made up? Them? We are not actually looking for negative reviews online, but at least a few ones from trusted commenting sites that we can believe are true reviewers or consumers. Because anyone can make up a “Carla (happy customer)”. I think UsingMiles is not that much being used that no customer had even generously written a review about them. Or maybe, no one had used the site at all. Free us from suspicion. Please.

Just to let you know, some major airlines didn’t authorize managing mileage sites to stop keeping track of their members’ miles/points. Since some airlines find it offensive in a way. It’s like telling them their customers are not earning the right points and awards, wherein the sole purpose of the airlines’ frequent-flyer program is to provide travellers more discounts and not more payment such as the 29.99 membership by UsingMiles.

Firefly Airline Reviews

Firefly is not an online travel agency but is the low-cost subsidiary airline of Malaysia Airlines for scheduled domestic services. The first community airline was established in April 2007 and had its first inaugural flight from Penang to Kota Bharu. Even though Firefly is a full subsidiary of Malaysia Airlines it also focuses on servicing routes to Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand. Passengers who frequently fly with Firefly are being rewarded with miles as a member of their Enrich (miles program).

As their company logo says “Beyond Convenience”, the orange themed airline has 19 aircraft in fleet consisting of (12) ATR 72-500 and (7) ATR 72-600. These aircraft are enough to cater service to 19 destinations (as mentioned above) within Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand. The airline operates from two hubs: Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport and Penang International Airport.

As we noticed, Firefly uses the greater than sign (>) on their company slogan as “B>yond Convenience” and that is obviously self explanatory why. Firefly has one type of service on board and this only service offers a range of exclusive airline accommodation while on air. Passengers are served with a complimentary meal and drink which has never been a complaint with previous customers.

For a low-cost airline the legroom space was not spacious but enough. Another good thing about Firefly is, there were no record of any incident or accident happened. So it’s very safe to fly with them. This gives them more points as an airline company.

Firefly’s website page is modernized and easily understood. The orange and yellow colors leaves a summery and bright mood to its users. The flashing image as background promotes their current package deals and Malaysia’s tourism. On their official website, customers can search and book for flights and hotel reservations. They can also manage their booking and check-in online.

And yes, as expected. Firefly has mobile app which is available on both from the App Store and Google Play Store. The mobile version of services is pretty much similar to its PC version, wherein travellers can book a flight, manage their booking, check-in and access their boarding pass by just using their smartphones.

If I’ll be the one writing a review on Skytrax, I might give them a 8/10 score based on what we gathered and learned about Firefly. Well I haven’t flew with them, so I won’t finalize my score for them yet. But they piqued my interest and I will certainly fly with them once I visit the country of Malaysia soon this year. Besides, they are only a new airline, we shouldn’t be expecting something big within just a few years of operating.

Nok Air Reviews

Thailand’s low-cost airline was established in February 2004 as an air carrier that operates 24 domestic services to routes within Thailand. Nok Air is actually the budget airline of Thai Airways (Thailand’s flag carrier). Nok actually means “Bird” in Thai, which explains why their fleet is designed that way. Well, if you’ll ask me, I find the design of Nok Air’s aircraft to be unique and catchy since it’s the main reason how I learned about them and ended up writing a review.

The company’s slogan was derived from the land of smiles, as they say “We Fly Smiles” they certainly do. Nok Air has a fleet size of 29, which majorly consists of Boeing. Now, the airline doesn’t only cater domestic routes, but also to 4 international routes to Myanmar, Vietnam and Singapore. Nok Air operates at Don Mueang International Airport while being managed by their CEO, Patee Sarasin.

Beginning in mid-February 2016, Nok Air cancelled numerous flights. The resignation of 17 pilots that followed a 14 February work stoppage by about 10 pilots and the 25 February announcement of an extension of flight cancellations 10 March cast doubt on the airline’s competence.

They issued several contradictory stories to explain the cancellations. These include dissension between Nok Air management and cockpit staff, charges of nepotism, and questions about pilot loyalty.

The problem actually arose after Thailand tightened its aviation standards to comply with the European Aviation Safety Agency. The CEO had actually disqualified some pilots as said on local media.

To remedy its shortage of pilots, Nok Air may be permitted to boost the number of its pilots beyond the 40 percent cap mandated by Thai law. Nok Air hired 32 new pilots, bringing their total to 212.

We shouldn’t be expecting much from a budget airline since it just offers flights to short routes within Thailand. But Nok Air had exceeded the normal low-cost airline services. Flight attendants were recognized even on social media with their friendliness and professional attitude towards the passenger. Snacks are offered on board and inflight menu is given if in case customers prefer another selection.

Moving forward, the website provides all relative airline information that a traveller needs before and during his booking. The option to learn and join their frequent flyer program Nok Fan Club is also accessible on the site.

Seems like even if the airline is suffering from pilot shortage, they can still provide quality of service. According to 64 Nok Air reviews online, the Thai budget airline had made passengers well accommodated before, during and after the crisis. Which only means that the airline is good at maintaining their standard service even in business calamity. But some Nok Air reviews are still showing complaints over the inflight services. However, these were properly dealt by the cabin crew.

I personally want to fly with Nok Air, first because the aircraft looks cool. Second, the airline staff are professional. Third, because they value their passengers. And lastly, because their service is incomparable. I respect the airline as much as I love other major airlines. Who knows? Maybe in the future, they can be the flag carrier of Thailand and be part of the Top 100 Airlines in the world.

RwandAir Reviews

“Fly our dream to the heart of Africa”, this has been the company slogan of the national airline of Rwanda. Initially the flag carrier was known as “Rwandair Express” and recently began operating in 2002. It is in 2008, when the airline had tried and planned to extend their network, services and fleet. In 2009, the airline had rebranded to RwandAir and the reason for eliminating the word ‘express’ is to let the travellers know that the airline doesn’t just operate in small regional routes but to other international routes.

In 2010, the first CEO of the new rebranded airline was appointed. Rene Janata introduced the frequent flyer program Dream Miles and really helped a lot in the development of RwandAir. However, for some unexplained reason, Janata was replaced by John Mirenge as the CEO on the same year.

The flag carrier had been receiving mixed RwandAir reviews online. On Airlinequality, RwandAir garnered a total of 6/10 score out of 23 RwandAir reviews. However, it’s quite contradicting how reviewers comment about the airline’s flight attendants. Some passenger said they were rude but the most recent review had noticed that the cabin crew were full of smiles. On a positive note the plane was mentioned to be clean and well maintained. Proper meals were provided even for just an hour flight. To sum it up, majority of the feedback regarding RwandAir are positive and recommend to use them again on their future flights.

We personally love how the page looks like, since it makes you feel like flying on the clouds with its 3d effect while navigating the site. Though we were just disappointed at one point that there were no cabin class information found on their official website. No-travel app service was expected since Rwanda is not a big country.

The country of the “Land of a Thousand Hills” had really made a slow process growth. Rwanda is not one of the undiscovered best destinations for green mountains, landscape and volcano national parks, plus the nightlife of vibrant restaurants is a must visit activity in Rwanda. These were just few things you would reconsider travelling to Rwanda and what we mentioned above was a review to reconsider or at least try to fly with their national airline. Royal Brunei Airlines Reviews

The wholly government-owned flag carrier of Brunei traces its roots back to November 1974, which is 41 years ago. They initially started with a fleet of two Boeing 737-200. However, they had their first inaugural flight in May 1975 to Singapore.  The reason why the first flight was after 6 months is because the airport (Brunei International Airport) was just newly built by then.

Even if Royal Brunei Airlines had been operating for 4 decades, they never cease to amaze travellers who are flying with them. I am hoping in due time to see their name as part of Skytrax’s World’s Top 100 Airlines. Because they deserve to be considered as one of the best. Brunei might be just a little nation at the island of Borneo, but obviously had shown a lot compared to other major airlines nowadays.

At first, I thought MEA was too brave to name their airline as Middle East Airlines, like they are the best airline in the Middle East. But after writing this review, we realized that MEA might not be the top airline in the world or in the Middle East, they are still good at providing flight services. Let’s talk about Gulf Air and their current status in the industry.

History and Present

Gulf Air was founded in 1950 as Gulf Aviation Company by Freddie Bosworth. The initial fleet contained seven Avro Ansons and three de Havilland DH. 86B four engine biplanes.

Bahraini Maher Salman Al Musallam has been the acting CEO of Gulf Air since December 2012.  He had 35 years of experience in the Royal Bahraini Air Force to prepare him for the airline industry.

What people are saying

Gulf Air got a 5 out of 10 star rating on Airlinequality.com and a 5.5 out of 7 star rating on Airlineratings.com. Looks like Gulf Air is somewhere in the middle between good and bad service.

Their in flight service was complimented by many reviews. One traveler said that the attendants were very friendly “even to the most annoying passengers.”

The ample seats were comfortable since many of the reviews gave the seat comfort 4 and 5 star ratings. However, their food on board left a bad taste with some customers. There were complaints about the food being unsatisfactory and their in flight entertainment was very poor. One traveler compared Gulf Air to Emirates and Etihad, he was disappointed with Gulf Air for their poor service, unlike when he flew with Emirates and Etihad. Most of the reviews had something good and bad to say about the Airline.

On their “Book and Buy” section, customers can easily look for flight deals and reserve them within minutes. Online check in is also one feature including checking flight status and managing bookings. Gulf Air also provides deals for hotel and car reservations for a complete travel itinerary.

Gulf Air provides benefits and advantages to customers through the Falconflyer programme. Travelers enrolled in this programme are divided by three memberships Silver, Gold and Black, they can collect loyalty points to upgrade their membership. Awarded miles are earned by flying with Gulf Air frequently, customers can then redeem their award miles for free tickets, free upgrades and more.

Gulf Air has a mobile site version for customers to book the flights using their smartphones or tablets. Booking flights, managing bookings and timetable are just some of the features on the mobile site.

Customer Service

Gulf Air provides 24/7 customer support through phone. They also have email support and customer feedback submission for their own company evaluation. The FAQs page is enough for general information needed by the customers, but the customer service can answer more direct and specific questions,


Gulf Air has only economy class, but passengers can avail for different seat plans. The economy seat or the Falcon Gold cabin.

The amazing features of this cabin includes, European and Middle Eastern inspired meals with Arabic mezze are prepared by Sky Chef, wireless internet connection, noise cancelling headsets and 15.4” tv screen for entertainment. Children in this cabin are also taken care off by Sky Nanny who will cater to everything they need.

  • Falcon gold passengers – 40 kg
  • Economy class passengers- 30 kg

Gold and Silver members are given extra baggage allowance, 20 kg for Gold members and 15 kg for Silver members.

Cabin/ Hand baggage

  • Falcon gold passengers – 9 kg (maximum dimensions 55 x 40 x 30 cm)
  • Economy class passengers – 6 kg (maximum dimensions 45 x 40 x 30 cm or 17 x 15 x 12 inches)


Gulf Air’s headquarter is located in Muharraq, Bahrain and their main hub is the Bahrain International Airport. Air Gulf has a total of 28 airliners including Airbus 330-200, Airbus 321 ER, Airbus 320-200 and  Airbus 320 ER.

Gulf Air was nominated by World Travel Awards as 2015 Middle East’s Leading Airline Rewards Programme but lost to Emirates. They won the same award back in 2009.

In a Nutshell

Gulf Air got knocked back two places from the 86th spot to the 88th, probably due to some gaps with some of their in flight service. Air Nostrum Review

Most Airlines are owned by a country, someone or a group. Defining the word independent is very important when it comes to the airline industry. An individual creates his legacy if he managed to build an entire airline on his own with no stakeholders or supporters at all, but that is next to impossible, unless that someone is as rich as Richie Rich.

Being independent is never possible at first, but when you witness your company grow, little by little you start cutting strings.

Origins and Ownership

Air Nostrum has 6 shareholders meaning the company’s ownership is divided. The biggest percent share belongs to Carlos Bertomeu, founder and CEO of Air Nostrum since its establishment on May 23rd, 1994, year of the dog. Bertomeu may have the biggest share, but he still needed help so ownership is not absolute.

The first flight took flight on December 15th, 1994, a Fokker 50 Turboprop aircraft marked the inauguration of Air Nostrum. The flight was from Valencia finding its way to bilbao with 16 passengers aboard.

Customer Feedback

Air Nostrum managed to retain its 83rd spot on the top 100 airlines by SkyTrax 2015. The airline got a 5 out of 10 star rating on Airlinequality.com. There was a mixture of good and bad comments, looks like Air Nostrum had its good and bad days.

There were reviews stating that Air Nostrum’s service is excellent from ground service to on board. Most of the reviews retaliate against each other. One traveler said that it was the most comfortable flight he’s ever been in, while another traveler claimed the seats to be cramped and very uncomfortable.

Iberia airline is Air Nostrum’s parent company, in one of the reviews a customer said that flying with Iberia was terrible and that Air Nostrum does their services better than their parents. Another debate is Air Nostrum’s value for money, some customers gave the “Value for Money” a 1 star while others 4 or 5 star, some of the customers who gave a 5-star flew business class. Air Nostum needs to keep a momentum wherein their service is always satisfactory, it may be hard but not impossible, but really, really hard.

Air Nostrum’s interface is simple and a little slow. Some of the features doesn’t load well, the gallery on the homepage doesn’t immediately appear unlike other airline websites.

Anyway, travelers are more concern of the travel process of booking flights rather than looking at pictures.

Customers can look for flights and book them with ease. The website includes  a page for offers with origin – destination and price rates. Other travel itinerary like car rentals and hotel reservation can be managed on the website. They also have their own youtube account for video advertisements.

Customer Service

Their phone line is open 24/7 for enquiries and bookings. They also provide email support for customers who prefers to send an email to the company rather than talking to representatives who might or might not be efficient.


Air Nostrum only has two class, the business and the economy.

Business Class

Reclining seat pitch of 31” that is “Lanthal” leather seating. Their menu offers a wide variety of food and beverages, including subs, chips, beverage and more with complimentary alcohol, meal, snacks and appetizers. In flight entertainment is enjoyed by reading because attendants distributes daily newspapers.

Economy class

Passengers can purchase snacks, sandwiches and beverages on board. No in flight entertainment, just entertain yourself by socializing with other passengers. Seat pitch 31” tops.


Economy passengers can carry a one piece of luggage not exceeding 23kg. The same weight limit applies to business class passengers but they can bring 2 luggage.


Air Nostrum’s main base is located in Valencia, Spain. The Airline has three hubs the Barcelona Airport, Madrid-Barajas Airport and Valencia Airport. Their fleet size is a total of 40 airliners and 39 to be delivered soon. Their fleet includes the Bombardier CRJ and ATR 72-600.

They are an affiliate of Oneworld Alliance. Air Nostrum was the Airline of the Year 2014/2015 Bronze in Recognition of Exceptional Performance in all Aspects of Regional Airline Operations by ERA (European Regions Airline Association), Barcelona
