Past and Present

SpiceJet was founded in May, 2005 by Ajay Singh and Bhupendra S. Kansagara. Singh still serves the airline as the Chairman, Managing Director and Promoter, while the current COO is Sanjiv Kapoor. Kapoor was appointed on November 1st, 2013, he was the former CEO of GMG Airlines Ltd, from 2011 to 2013.

Sanjiv has over 17 years experience in the airline industry, and is considered as a C-level executive.

People Feedback

On Airlinequality.com, SpiceJet got a 5 out of 10 star rating. SpiceJet’s in flight service is great according to the reviews, but their ground service, not so much.

One patron was travelling with his son, they arrived at the airport a little early. When they were about to check in, the ground attendants announced that checking-in is currently unavailable and asked them to wait for a little while. After 45 minutes, the traveler decided to ask what time will the airline allow passengers to board, the attendant said that they were already allowing passengers minutes ago. The passenger was frustrated because there was no announcement. He was so mad that he didn’t recommended SpiceJet at all.

On the other hand, some customer reviews had a great experience with SpiceJet because of their efficient in flight service, delicious food, helpful attendants and the seats were very comfortable.

SpiceJet.com is pretty standard, nothing new. Passengers can book flights and check-in , no problem at all, they can also manage their bookings to avail for extra service or ask for a confirmation for their itinerary. The airline provides domestic and international flights, they offer discounted deals for flight+hotel and domestic packages.

Customers can also apply for the SpiceFlex program, wherein passengers can avail for extra services such as priority check-in, complimentary meals , preferred seat selection and more.

“SpiceJet: Red, Hot, Spicy” – Mobile Application

Their application allows customers to book flights, manage bookings, avail for extra services and monitor flight status.

Customer Service

Their customer support line is open 24/7 for bookings and enquiries. A feedback page is also included to allow customers to state their concerns and complaints, they also cater to email support.

A Frequently asked question or FAQs page is included with several questions to help customers find the information or answers they want.

Services

SpiceJet has only one class, Economy.

The seats can be reclined and provides extra legroom. According to reviews, a passenger is very lucky if he or she happens to be the only one in his or her row.

Food on Board

SpiceJet sells hot meals, snacks and beverages on selected flights only.

Entertainment on Board

Attendants provides updated copies of the magazine Spice Route. The magazine has different contents like advertisements for SpiceJet, lifestyle, cooking and more.

SpiceFlex and SpiceMax

These service products provide perks like extra legroom, priority baggage and complimentary meals. There are respective price rates for each extra services.

Baggage

Each domestic flight passenger has a check in baggage allowance of 15 kg, while international passengers have 22 kg each. There is no free baggage allowance for carry-on baggage, passengers are required to pay the fees according to baggage weight.

  • Upto 10 kg – Flat fee of INR 500
  • 11kg to 15kg – Flat fee of INR 750
  • Above 15kg – INR 750 + INR 300 per kg. for each additional kg.

Conclusion

  1. My seat during my flight can’t be reclined, the food was good and the attendants were attentive, but their seats weren’t comfortable at all.
