Past: Originally known as “Sandweiler Airport” and was started in the 1930s as a small grass airfield. By May 10, 1940, it was invaded on by Germany during World War II. That was the reason why the small grass airfield was renamed to “Sandweiler Airport” and was not used by the Luftwaffe until September 1944. But a few days after the United States Army moved through Luxembourg and cleared the country of the occupying German forces, the airport was used by them for the rest of the war as a transport supply airfield and was returned to Luxembourgish control on August 15, 1945.

Have you been there? Feel free to share your recent experience below.

  1. Just flown through Luxembourg. The new terminal is not ready yet (at least 6 months away I guess) and not much sign of a railway. The current Terminal A is small and old but quick and efficient. Beer is still only €2. Luxair is one of the best small lounges I have come across – plenty of food and drink and very comfortable.
