From an idea of providing domestic all-jet fleet services to broadening ideas like expanding to international routes via new non-jet aircrafts. It was a slow start for Luxair. They might not be part of the best airlines worldwide, but their luxurious service is the reason why passengers love flying with them.

Origins and Ownership
Luxair was founded in 1948 and officially started operating in 1962 with a Fokker 27 from Luxembourg to Paris. Over decades of maintaining regional all-jet services, in October 2008, Luxair decided to expand their services by buying their first Boeing 737-800. 13% of the stake was sold to Lufthansa in July 2015.

The flag carrier of Luxembourg has a fleet size of 18 aircrafts consisting of 7 Boeing 737, 7 De Havilland Canada DHC-8 Dash 8 and 4 Embraer ERJ-145. The main base at Luxembourg Findel Airport caters 64 destinations internationally. The CEO of Luxair since 2005, Adrien Ney, is a 58 year old native of Luxembourg who has a very precocious attraction for the banking trade and high ambitions.

The luxurious Luxair had been receiving simultaneous awards. The most recent awards they had received is the Pro Sky Aviation Excellence Awards 2014.

Luxair Cabin Services
Luxair offers two cabin classes: Economy and Business Class. Both classes are known for their crew’s hospitality. Passengers flying with Economy Class are served with complimentary meals and beverages which in Business Class, passengers enjoy famous European dishes and a wide selection of wine, juices, hot or cold and soft drinks. To keep their customers entertained, inflight magazines and newspapers are offered. Personal electronic devices are also allowed to be used on board.

Website & Mobile App
The interface of the airline is pleasing to the eyes with its light colors of blue and white. However using the website is complicated for it’s not user friendly and the words are too small to understand. What caught my attention is the flashing image of a a funny faces on the middle of the page which promotes Luxair’s latest promo, offers and deals.

The feature of the website is similar to the mobile app, wherein travelers can book flights, hotel reservations and car rentals. They can also check-in online, check flight status, manage their booking. Customers can also see the information about Luxair’s policies, services and frequent flyer Miles & More.

Luxair Reviews of Passengers
Based on some Luxair reviews, the airline gathered a total score of 7 out 10 by Skytrax according to customer’s feedback. The above average rating proves that the airline is one of the most generous in providing and maintaining good quality of service. Passengers are really satisfied with the inflight services of Luxair that they even prefer them over other European airlines.

The most recent review was on the 20th of August 2015, the reviewer said “Luxair operates 5 per week flights between Málaga Costa del Sol and Luxembourg City. Prices on Luxair can be high for this route but the value for money is excellent. 

We had a true tray with a complete meal on board with Luxembourgish specialities (which were pretty good). Cabin crew speaking in more that 4 languages and even in Spanish (very good point for a Spanish passenger like me). Seats and leg room were excelent and the plane was new and clean.”Through this he gave the airline a 9/10 rating according to

Wind Up
Obviously, I would love to try flying with Luxair after reading some Luxair reviews. The airline’s attitude of giving not the best but enough was their asset which made them popular in their own ways. I could foresee that Luxair might soon be one of the top airlines in time.

  1. My spouse had a jewelry removed from checked bag. Contacted customer service. Told to make claim using online form, printed and mailed. Waited couple of months, called back using claim number, they said they lost it. Resent claim 6 times! l lost them. I gave up! NEVER FLY LUXAIR

    • Hi Sheldon, I was surprised because this was the first time hearing this kind of complaint from an airline. Specially with Luxair. Have you try recomplaining your concern after several days? Sometimes it is still best to follow up than to let it go.
