Beginning of Korean Air
In the beginning it was known as “Korean Air Lines” founded in 1962 by the South Korean Government, to replace the Korean National Airlines and was owned by Hanjin Transport Group on March 1, 1969.
On March 1, 1984, after redesigning the company logo to Taeguk the name was changed to “Korean Air”. Taeguk is a word from Middle-Chinese which means “absolute”. This is also the symbol found on the center of the Korean flag.
Mr. Cho Yang-Ho was a manager in Americas Regional Headquarters of Korean Air in 1974 and really made his way up and in 1999 became the Chief Executive Officer of the airlines. The current CEO and chairman of Korean Air, Mr. Cho, is a 66 year old Korean and is also the chairman of the Hanjin Transport Group.
Things You Need to Know about Korean air
The largest airline in South Korea is known as Daehan Hanggong in their language or Korean Air Line Co., Ltd. but operating as Korean Air. The main hubs of the airlines are found at Seoul Gimpo International Airport and Seoul Incheon International Airport with a fleet size of 158 consisting of 29 Airbus A330, 10 Airbus A380, 40 Boeing 737 Next Gen, 37 Boeing 747 and 42 Boeing 777. To expand they are ordering 2 new Boeing 787.
Korean Air is in alliance with SkyTeam and did you know the airline is a parent company of Jin Air? Also, in 2018, Korean Air will be a sponsor of the 2018 Winter Olympics.
Recently, SkyTrax has nominated Korean Air as a “Leading international airline” and they have been also consecutively nominated since 2010 with “Asia’s Leading Airline” and “World’s Most Innovative Airline – First Class”
Korean Air Services
Passengers in flight on Korean Air are served with a choice of Western cuisines or their famous Korean dishes with selections of juices, soft drinks or bottled water. However the meal may vary depending on whether you’re flying Economy, Prestige or First Class.
Seat back AVOD (audio/video on demand) is the entertainment offered to passengers of Korean Air. Customers enjoy a wide selection of the latest movies, TV shows, music and games.
Like other airlines, Korean Air has a frequent flyer program called SKYPASS and by earning Miles (pointing system) every time a customer flies with Korean Air, they are entitled to hotel reservations, car rental services and bonus flight tickets.
PC and Mobile version
The PC version of Korean Air’s official website looks friendly and accommodating. The header gives customers the features to book a flight, check-in online, schedule flights and check flight status.
The upper part of the page lets customers select their country and language, this option is really customized by Korean Air to ensure customers would understand every detail on the page.

The lower part of the official website promotes the airlines’ latest deals and shows images of tourist attractions and prices depending upon the package’s offer.
The Mobile version features are similar to the PC version like booking international or domestic flights, check-in online, flight schedule and status, manage booking and ticket. All of these features are in one app which is available on the App store and Google Play Store.
I read a lot of Korean Air reviews and so far the most recent reviews are praises and customer service appreciation. One reviewer said “I had an excellent experience flying with Korean Air. The comfort and service in my Prestige Class seat made my 13 hour flight back to the United States painless and very enjoyable. From the minute I boarded the plane, the Cabin Staff were friendly and helpful. The multiple meals served during the trip were brought out timely, extremely fresh and were well presented. Multiple Western food options are available but the Korean cuisine was phenomenal. I slept a solid 7 hours on the flight. I want to especially thank Jung Yoojin in Prestige Class on flight KE029 from Incheon, South Korea to Houston, Texas for making my first Korean Air experience wonderful. I enjoyed reading various Korean Air reviews, the Korean airline really had set the stage to entertain their passengers.
