Since it has been a year, we will be starting to write new reviews about the travel sites we once wrote about last year, just to give you a heads up of the current status or changes of a particular online travel agency. Things can change in a span of a year, that’s why we decided on re-writing some of the written travel search engines and give you the freshest feedback for 2016.

In this review, we will be re-talking about Hipmunk.

As we all know, the short history of Hipmunk was a creation by a nerd graduate from Massachusetts who published “The Missing Manual: AppleScript” as young as 16 years old and was the founder and CEO of Reddit. Yes, Adam Goldstein and Steve Huffman. The name itself actually didn’t come up from an “aha moment,” yet was continuously being discussed before being finalized as a chipmunk theme travel company.

How does Hipmunk work?

pageThe idea at first was to build a travel agency, one that would enable consumers to quickly make decisions based on an array of choices, including flights, hotels, cars, trains, and buses. As one of the founders said. “Our main philosophy, is that we want you to spend as little time on our site as possible with the least amount of pain.” That’s when Agony was created.

Agony, Hipmunk’s service, helps customers to book hassle-free flights by comparing not only the price but also the duration and number of stops for each flight into one single factor. This kind of searching is not yet copied by other agencies because Hipmunk’s Agony is an original. Hipmunk Reviews 2016-mobile appAgony is the service asset of the company.

Hipmunk has a mobile app up for their customer’s mobile phones. In this mobile app, customers are entitled to the same services as Hipmunk for PC, searching flights, hotel reservations, and car rentals. The app is included on Time’s 50 Best iPhone Apps.

Hipmunk Reviews 2016 from Customers

Hipmunk reviews are not as many as they are since we last wrote a review about them. They are actually getting a lot of recognition from consumers. On Feefo, Hipmunk reviews had an overall score of 95% while Forbes wrote an article about Hipmunk. But, some unpopular site still had shown similar complaints as to last year’s problem with deal overpricing.

I wonder why Hipmunk is not on SiteJabber or Trustpilot? Are they banned for spamming the two sites to gain balance positive reviews? If they are really one of the best, then there should be an explaining to this.

Conclusion

Even if it is known as one of the best travel sites in the world nowadays, it still puzzles me why Hipmunk only has email options to contact them. Why limit their customer service if complaints are continuously showing every now and then? I hope Hipmunk is not trying to minimize the volume of complaints by limiting their communication via email. Because, if that’s the case, then they are actually worse than scam.

  1. The hotels availability is not always accurate, I have experienced hour delays for the hotel to confirm booking, leaving guests waiting to check in. When the hotel provided inferior service, no one is held accountable, too many third parties involved involved handling the account. multiple phone trees and wait times and passes between departments is poorly triaged.
