Halifax Stanfield International Airport Reviews

When the Halifax Civic Airport was closed and converted to an army base in 1942, the Department of Transport established a new airport near Kelly Lake in 1960. The air facility accommodated over 180,000 passengers by then, and it became quite apparent in the 1970’s that the growth rate of YHZ was greater than an average airport.

As a result, long-range development plans were made. And, that’s what it makes the Halifax Stanfield International Airport as it is now.

Did you know that YHZ was part of Operation Yellow Ribbon of Canada? An operation to handle the diversion of civilian airline flights in response to the September 11 attacks in 2001. And, also to honour the people of Gander and Halifax for their support during the operation, Lufthansa named a new Airbus A340-300 “Gander-Halifax” on May 16, 2002.

The airport was named in honour of Robert Stanfield, or the 17th Premier of Nova Scotia and leader of the federal Progressive Conservative Party of Canada. In this review we’ll be looking through about the services and traffic reviews of Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ).

Conclusion

However, we are still puzzled why Halifax Stanfield International Airport had ranked down from the 56th to 61th spot from the World’s Top 100 Airports. Maybe, because of some complaints over the neutrality of their services? Or, maybe because the airport needs more development given its size and traffic. I hope they won’t keep going down every year.

  1. My one critique is when you reach the gate side of security because if you have a lengthy wait there is literally nothing to do and no where to go, save for the one restaurant in the terminal. There was a massage place but they were closed both on arrival and departure. Sad.
Good airport for sure. Definitely a breeze to fly in and out of.

  2. Small Airport and all the procedures went really fast. Prices at the shops a bit high but it’s the airport. Wasn’t that busy and some shops were already closed but it was ok and our flight was the last one at 11:40 pm.
