Ethiopian Airlines Review

Ethiopians are very much different in some aspects. Time, Language, Beliefs, and Culture. The country is known for training some of the world’s fastest long-distance runners. The beginning
It all started on July 8, 1946 the first flight to Cairo with a Douglas C-47 Skytrain, and later on known as Ethiopian Airlines Inc., was actually a joint venture with American Airline and Trans World Airlines (TWA).

A master degree holder in Business Administration, Mr. Tewolde Gebremariam, is the Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Airlines since July 2011. Eversince he was the CEO, Mr. Gebremariam received multiple awards. The most recent was in November 2012, awarded as “The African CEO of the Year 2012” from an African CEO Forum. And in July 2013, he was the first African Airline CEO who received an annual award “The Airline Strategy Award for Regional Leadership” by Airline Business Magazine.

The Ethiopian Airlines’ Awards & Achievements
The Ethiopian Airlines is the new spirit of Africa and a Star Alliance member. The head office’s location is at Bole International Airport, PO Box 1755, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with 8,000 plus employees as of December 2014.

Since 2009, it received the award GOLD thrice by the African Aviation News Portal. The most recent awards Ethiopian Airlines received was this September 2015; Best International Airline of the Year by Business Executive Excellence Awards and Global Growth Company of 2015 Certificate by The World Economic Forum.

The Official Website and Mobile App
The website of the Ethiopian Airlines comes with Green, Yellow, and Red which symbolizes the flag of Ethiopia. Initially, will be asking their customers to choose their country and language, after hitting Continue it will prompt you to the next page. The home page of the website provides you the option to book a flight, rent a car, book a hotel reservation. Their customers will be able to check their flight status, schedules and check-in online too. While booking a trip gives you the option if their customers are going one way or roundtrip. The interface of the official website of Ethiopian Airlines promotes what their current deals are, promos, or offers, with the promo date, sales date and the sales rates.

The website doesn’t have a mobile app version though it has a CBE Mobile App, wherein this Commercial Bank of Ethiopia helps their customer to make payments easier via Credit or Debit card by using their mobile phones.

ShebaMiles, is the reward program for Ethiopian Airlines. Their customers earn Miles as they travel, and are entitled to redeem Miles for ticket awards, with international services, with ASKY services, class upgrade, with star alliance and domestic services. Passenger’s Feedback
Despite the good leadership skills and awards being received by the airlines, Ethiopian Airlines receives a poor review from its customers. One reviewer said he flew Ethiopian Airlines from Washington to Addis Ababa. He noted that the attendants are not even close to hospitable. There were times he was asking for a glass of water and he was given a completely unwelcoming demeanor from the flight attendant. He had a sense of favoritism in-flight for the attendants served the nationals better, even though everyone paid same amount. The customer ended the reviewer by recommending another airlins, and gave Ethiopian Airlines a 3/10 rate according to

The Ethiopian Airline provides an email subscription if you want to receive their latest offers and news. Their customers just have to click on the “subscribe” button and it will ask for their first and last name, email address, preferred airport, country, and click “subscribe” once more to get subscribed.

Ethiopian Airlines provides special assistance to customers who need extra care like passengers with disabilities, unaccompanied minors, pregnant women, differently abled and travelling with pets.

The Cloud Nine service is one way Ethiopian Airlines makes your flight luxurious, like being on cloud nine as the expression defines; a state of perfect happiness and satisfaction.

They serve customers with special food for dietary, nutritional or religious beliefs. The in-flight entertainment is assured with the latest movies, music, games, audio books, and TV shows. The in-flight meals contain a wide selection of sumptuous Ethiopian delicacies. While in beverages, a range of signature drinks are offered to pair with their customer’s served meal.

  1. I flew once with Ethiopian Airlines. I have nothing against them however I had problems talking to one of their Stewardess, if I recall it correctly her name was Sarah. She barely speak English but she see to it I will get the assistance I was asking. I was actually just asking for a Coke Light instead Diet Coke.
