The Beginning of China Southern Airlines
China Southern Airlines is one of three major airlines in China, serves 193 destinations and is in alliance with SkyTeam. The airline traces its roots back to July 1, 1988.
The current president and CEO of the airlines is a 51 year old Chinese man, Mr. Wangeng Tan. He has been the CEO since January 2009.
Incidents and crash reports were part of the airlines challenges. In 1990, Xiamen Airlines aircraft was hijacked and unfortunately crashed into a Boeing 757 of China Southern Airlines killing 128 people in total; In 1992, Flight 3943, a Boeing 737 crashed due to engine malfunction and all 141 passengers and crew were killed; In 1997, Flight 3456 was on its final approach to Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport crashed and killed 35 and 9 injured.
China Southern Airlines main bases are located at Guangzhou Baiyun and Beijing Capital International Airport with “Fly your dreams” as their company slogan. The fleet size of the airlines is a total of 505 Airbus and Boeing aircraft.
The company logo is a red kapok flower which is known to be a “hero flower” and the city flower of Guangzhou.

The sixth largest airlines worldwide serve passengers with several kinds of classes: Economy, Premium Economy, First/Business, Platinum Private and Luxurious First Class. Some of the classes are only available with certain destinations and aircraft like Luxurious First Class are available for passengers routed Guangzhou-Sydney. Platinum Private Class is only offered on their Airbus A380 aircrafts.
Complimentary meals and beverages are served in all classes which is a set of palatable Western and Chinese cuisines with choices of cold or hot drinks. The official website is a non-complex design and cozy ambiance to provide travellers the service to book a flight either one-way, roundtrip or multi-city. The other functions are requesting refunds, check flight status, check-in online, airport service information such as mobile version downloading link, seat reservation, booking meals and baggage allowance.
The mobile version is available on iPhones, iPads, and Android devices. This mobile app supports international ticket booking in China. The other functions of the mobile app lets customers verify their ticket, check flight status, get a travel guide and access to their SkyPearl membership.
Reading through several mixed negative and positive China Southern Airlines Reviews, I can see passengers somehow are not fully satisfied with the service of the airlines. However few find it good enough for recommendation. Let’s take a look at what one reviewer said on the 9th of October 2015, “I took China Southern Airlines Premium Economy from Paris to Guangzhou. Operated by Boeing 777-E00ER, the cabin is modern and comfortable. Crew members are really nice with a smiling face. I was sitting on 35F, 2-4-2 seat arrangement on Premium Economy Class, with adjustable seat, personal reading light and footrest. They provide 2 meals service during the flight. Between the meal service they provide beverage, sandwiches and cup noodle on the gallery area.
