Sahakol Air to Bangkok Airways
The Bangkok Airways was founded in 1968 by then known as “Sahakol Air” which was under the Overseas International Construction Company (OICC), Sahakol Air was the first Thailand’s privately-owned regional airline. In 2000, when the fleet size added Boeing 717s and ATR-72 the name was officially changed to Bangkok Airways.
The current president and CEO of Bangkok Airways, Mr. Prasert Prasarttong-Osoth, is an 82 year old Thai and is the president of Bangkok Dusit Medical Services Public Company Ltd. In 2007, Mr. Osoth was given a royal warrant of appointment to display the Phra Khrut Pha, which means Garuda Emblem is the national emblem of Thailand.

Bangkok Airways current fleet size of 30 and consist of 8 Airbus 320s, 11 Airbus A319s, 8 ATR 72-500s and 3 ATR72-600s. The main hub of the airlines is at Suvarnabhumi Airport and is not a member of any airline alliance.

Bangkok Airways has two classes categorized as Economy Class and Blue Ribbon Club.
Blue Ribbon Club is their Business class and is top-notch quality. The customers with Blue Ribbon receive an extra 10 kg baggage allowance and access to the Blue Ribbon passenger lounge with complimentary snacks and drinks. When it comes to food, the Blue Ribbon customers enjoy a variety of Thai, Asian and Western dishes alongside with a choice of wine or champagne.
The airlines offer iPad minis as in-flight entertainment but only exclusive to Blue Ribbon Club passengers. The iPad minis are supplied by Bluebox Avionics which are equipped with a wide selection of the latest movies, videos, TV shows, music and games.
Flyer Bonus, is the frequent flyer program of Bangkok Airways. In which customers earn Points while travelling with Bangkok Airways which doubles upon referring a new member to join their program. The Website and Mobile app
Bangkok Airways’ website has a user-friendly lay out but the font size is a little too small, this might lead to difficulties with people with poor eyesight who don’t know how to use browser zoom functions. Anyway, the website of the airline provides the options to select the type of flight you want to book as to one-way, round-trip or multi-trip. Check-in online and checking flight status are also one of the website’s features. The background picture of shows the latest deals they offer for the season including the rate and booking date availability. The option to select your language from English to Thai and Japanese is located on the top right of the page.

Bangkok Airways’ mobile app features don’t differ that much from the website’s features. Using a mobile phone customers can book or manage flights, check-in online quicker than on website, flight information and promotions. The mobile app is ready to download in iOS and Android.

The reviewer said “Bangkok Airways was excellent, we travelled from Bangkok to Samui as a family of two adults and two children. There are at least 10 flights per day for this destination, so we could choose the times we wished. All the families with children have priority boarding. The cabin crew was outstanding, helping and serving us. We ordered children meals and they also got toys to play during the flight. Adults get one hot meal also. We recommend them.”
