Keeping with the priorities after 8 decades they have refocused their efforts to carry their legacy in the aviation industry and customer first thinking. I am excited to learn how Linious’ masterpiece of 80 years grew. Let’s take a tour for an Alaskan ride!
The rise of Alaska Airlines
The Alaska Airlines was founded in 1932 as McGee Airways. It all started when Mr. Linious “Mac” McGee painted the McGee Airway on the side of a stinson. In 1934, Mr. McGee merged with Star Air Service and that made the airlines largest airline in Alaska with 22 aircrafts. In mid 1944, the name was changed to Alaska Airlines.
From then on, Since May 15, 2012 up to the current, the Chief Executive Officer of the Airlines, Mr. Bradley Tilden, a 54 year old American was working on an “e-thumb” system which uses passenger’s fingerprints as a replacement for tickets, credit cards and IDs

Alaska Airlines is the seventh largest airlines in United States of America with its main bases in Los Angeles International Airport, Portland International Airport, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. The airlines fleet size is 145. The airlines is not with any of the three major airline alliances but have an agreement with some SkyTeam members.
The Alaska Airlines is in partner with Icelandair Airlines, Air France, Air Pacific, Kenmore Air, American Airlines, KLM, British Airways, Korean Air, Cathay Pacific, LAN, Delta Air Lines, PenAir, Era Alaska and Qantas. The sister company of the airlines is Horizon Air.
The airline has received several achievements and recognitions since 2012 up to the most recent, Alaska Airlines received the award of “Highest in Customer Satisfaction Among Traditional Carriers in North America, Eight Years in a Row” by J.D Power 2008-2015 North America Airline Satisfaction Studies.
Alaska Airlines Services
The Alaska Airlines has two classes depending on the aircraft; First Class and Coach Class.
Foods and Drinks are mostly done by an iconic chef, Tom Douglas. The in-flight cuisine consists of their signature Fruit & Cheese platter, healthy snacks, sandwiches, hand crafted liquors, Starbucks’ pike place roast decaf or regular, fresh meals and wines.
The in-flight entertainment tablet is the entertainment provided to customers, wherein they can browse more than 30 hit movies and 20 TV programs including the new movies you can’t (Mandatory Disclaimer: and shouldn’t) just download anywhere. Music, xbox gaming and digital magazines are available in that tablet. First Class are free to use the tablet however interchangeable to $8-10 depending on the flight length. The Alaska Airlines provides customers wifi called Gogo. Flight attendants will give instruction how to sign-up and connect.
The baggage policy of Alaska Airlines is strict. Each luggage must weigh 50 pounds or less with a maximum dimension of 62 linear inches to avoid additional charges. Charges can be paid online, airport kiosk or the mobile app.
The frequent flyer program of Alaska Airlines, Mileage Plan, entitles customers to earn Miles while travelling. Membership is free. As a member, customers are entitled to upgrade their cabin class, partial payment for vacation packages, travel with partner airlines and subscription to top selling magazines and newspapers.

The interface of the official website is calm, cozy and relaxing for the background image is a nice resolution seashore view of Hawaii. The website features let customers find and book flights either one-way or round-trip, book hotel reservations, car rentals, check-in online, check flight status and manage flights. Another feature of the website allows customers to see the most visited place worldwide and provide customer the latest Flight Deals on the right hand part of the page.
The Alaska Airlines mobile app functions allows customers to access similar features to its official website, wherein customer can book flights, check-in online, check flight status and track Miles. The mobile app version is available in iOS, Android and Windows.

One recent reviewer, October 1, 2015, said the level of Alaskan Airlines service was great. He mentioned that the staff is the most attentive and helpful he had ever travelled with. The food was noted as high standard with a few choices. His drinks were served on a regular basis and the chocolate snacks were great too. The seating was comfortable with adequate leg room and he found the entertainment notebooks really easy to use and the content was current films and TV programs. My final thoughts…
